The Mercedes-AMG division will release a “screw” version of the S65 sedan

The era of AMG models equipped with the V12 engine is coming to an end – the division that produces “hardened” Mercedes has decided to abandon this engine. Although the current M279 Biturbo engine debuted in 2012, its roots go back to the 1980s: distributed spray, one distribution shaft per cylinder head and three valves per cylinder.

Used in AMG models, this engine produces 630 horsepower and 1000 Nm. The engine can be seen under the hood of the Mercedes-AMG G 65 off-roader, the discontinued Mercedes-AMG SL 65 roadster and the Mercedes-AMG S 65 sedan. To say goodbye to this engine, AMG has developed a final version of the latest model.

The Mercedes-AMG S 65 Final Edition will have a special design. The body can only be black. The outlet pipes of the exhaust system are also painted in this colour. 20-inch wheels, bumpers and rims are bronze. AMG logos are placed on the rear pillars of the car. In the living room, you can see carbon decorative elements, copper-coloured seams. The contour lighting of the cabin also has these shades as standard, but the owner of the car has the opportunity to change the colour of the lighting.

Another interesting feature of the model is the black engine cover. Note that in the AMG models, this cover is silver. The Mercedes-AMG S 65 Final Edition has a full set of options: including individual rear seats, a panoramic roof and the AMG Driver’s Package, which allows you to reach a top speed of 300 km / h. A total of 130 “screw” sedans will be released.

However, the AMG unit will continue to release the V12 engine. These engines will be used for the Maybach subbrand. Currently, the engines with more “quiet” settings are installed on the Mercedes-Maybach S 650 and Pullman. The 530-horsepower base version of this engine is also installed on the Mercedes-Benz S 600 L.

For owners of “six hundred” models, the presence of a V12 engine under the hood is a matter of priority. Cars with the AMG label come to the fore. Tobias Moers, head of AMG, said that the “hardened” cars would be equipped with a unit with a new concept of the V12 engine. According to preliminary information, this V8 should be a hybrid powertrain based on bi-turbo motor and electric motors. The hybrid unit should provide economy and environmental friendliness for the AMG line.
